Dr. Nathan Townsend, PsyD

Nathan Townsend, PsyD is a licensed psychologist who practices in Marietta and the Atlanta metro area. He is the executive director of Psychological Affiliates in Marietta.  Dr. Townsend is a member of the American Psychological Association (APA), the APA Division 42 Community for Psychologists in Independent Practice, and the Georgia Psychological Association. Dr. Townsend conducts psychological evaluations of emotional functioning, academic and occupational problems, learning disabilities, ADHD, and other diagnostic clarification questions. Dr. Townsend specializes in individual, family, and child evaluations. Dr. Townsend implements psychological treatment for children, teens and adults with anxiety; depression; low self-esteem; academic or occupational problems; socialization and developmental issues, anger and stress management; and relationship conflicts among others. Dr. Townsend also offers consultation services to businesses and corporations.

Dr, Townsend received an undergraduate degree in Psychology and Biology from East Tennessee State University. He earned a masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and Professional Counseling and began working in private practice and as an adolescent therapist in a large psychiatric hospital in Tennessee. Although, he enjoyed that work he knew that he wanted to expand his practice so that he could offer a variety of services to people in need. Dr. Townsend received his doctorate from Georgia School of Professional Psychology and three years of training at Emory University School of Medicine. He finished his doctorate training with a yearlong internship at South Florida State Hospital. From there, Dr. Townsend completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Emory University School of Medicine. Drawing on years of experience in private practice, outpatient counseling centers, and inpatient hospitals, he has developed an ability to successfully work with a variety of people with a wide range of struggles. He has experience in therapeutic program development and supervision of both therapists and medical students. Throughout his experience, he has found that he has a genuine passion for helping others find the solutions that they seek.

Dr. Townsend grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee and now resides in the Marietta area with his wife, two sons, and daughter. When not in the office seeing patients, Dr. Townsend can be found at his children’s multiple activities, spending time with family,  and watching University of Tennessee and Atlanta Falcons football
